Beginning July 1, Uniontown USD 235 will have a permanent superintendent.

Board of Education members voted Wednesday night to issue a contract to Brett Howard.

The vote to hire Howard was unanimous. Howard's two-year contract comes with a $90,000 annual salary.

"We thought we had a very good pool of candidates this year," Board President Jason Sutterby said after the meeting. "We're very excited to bring Brett on board. We thought his personality and his background really fit our district."

"I really enjoy the smaller community and just the camaraderie you get in a smaller community," Howard said. "That's an important aspect, that the community and school are all on one page. I really felt that was the case here."

Howard currently is the principal and activities director at Flinthills High School at Rosalia.

According to his biographical information submitted to the district, Howard is in his 11th year as an administrator. He previously was a principal and assistant principal at Eureka Junior Senior High School. He taught and was athletic director at Frederic Remington High School in Whitewater.

He has a master's degree from Baker University and a district level certification from Newman University.

His teaching experience includes high school journalism, photography, newspaper production, yearbook production, and English 11 at Frederic Remington High School, where he also assumed the athletic director duties in 2001.

His coaching experience includes assistant football, basketball and track and head boys basketball coach at Frederic Remington.

Howard will fill a position that was vacated in August 2015 when Randy Rockhold tendered his immediate resignation as superintendent and senior and junior high principal. Jan Hedges was hired to serve as the interim superintendent and senior and junior high principal until Rockhold's replacement could be hired.
