Preparing for a Thanksgiving feast

Elks members Bill Brittain, left, and Dale Snyder man a smoker full of turkeys Tuesday afternoon at the Elks Lodge. Brittain said about 50 turkeys were being cooked for the annual Thanksgiving feast organized by Marjorie Schwalm and her family that will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the lodge, located at 111 W. 19th St. in Fort Scott. The event is open to the public. Dine-in, carry-out and delivery options will be available. Organizers are expecting attendance of about 700 people.
